When I go to a department store to buy new t-shirts, I hear an audible sigh of released tension when I walk past racks of t-shirts that I decided not to buy. That’s because t-shirts can sense a new owner that isn’t going to take care of them or treat them with any kind of dignity or respect. That horrid new owner is someone like me.

When I drag my pitiable body out of bed each morning, it is very easy for me to get dressed. I always wear t-shirts and they are always in a big, messy lump of clothes at the foot of my bed. My clean clothes pile is much different then my dirty clothes pile, because it is much smaller and closer to my hand when I sit on the edge of my bed.

After waking up, you get to enjoy some morning stretches as one of my t-shirts. Because I am an unhealthy blob of a man, most of my t-shirts don’t fit me so well anymore. This is rectified by putt my shirt on only halfway and jamming my elbows outward to literally jam the tee over my body more comfortably.

Once you have been ripped and pulled out of shape, you get to join me for breakfast. Breakfast is awesome, unless you are one of my t-shirts. Since it is early morning, I am much more of a disgusting klutz than usual, and I will undoubtedly decorate part of my shirt with a dribble of milk from my oversized cereal bowl.

Just because you’re a t-shirt, doesn’t mean that’s the only role you’re going to serve all day long. I am constantly in need of something to wipe my hands on after I do such mundane tasks as pump gas, change the oil, or just eat lunch. I may be messy, but I like for my hands to stay nice and clean and t-shirts are just so…convenient.

If you are a very special t-shirt, you may get the honor of being returned to the pile of clean t-shirts at the foot of my bed. This only happens when I can convince myself that I didn’t stain my t-shirt to the point of ruination during the course of the day, and let’s face it…that isn’t very likely. One of my friends tells me that my super-hero name is “Salsa Shirt”, after all.

While being worn all day by a fat guy and getting food dropped all over you may sound pretty bad, it is nothing compared with the terrible pain t-shirts must feel when they are put through a washing cycle at my house. Most people wash their cotton tees on a gentle, cold-water cycle. Cold water doesn’t get fried chicken stains out of a t-shirt, so I need to wash my clothes in the extra-hot doom cycle.

I have several that are put aside specially for hunting that are either camouflaged, or in very neutral color schemes. After hunting, we always go to a certain convenient store to meet and share our day’s exploits, and my hunting friends love to see what new gun t-shirts I have.

When I’m doing things with the wife and kids, I won’t wear gun t-shirts that will upset people we may run across. I have been guilty of humiliating my wife and my young ones by getting into heated arguments with people who have taken exception to my aggressive shirts. I have definitely learned my lesson. I don’t want to make my daughter cry anymore because daddy is yelling at some guy who doesn’t understand the importance of gun ownership in the United States. My shirts are nice and neutral for these instances.

When I am hanging out with my close buddies, it is a whole different ball game. I don’t care if my friends are embarrassed by me getting into political debates when we’re together. Frankly, all of my friends feel the same way too…they just aren’t as aggressive about the topic as I am. I don’t hold that against them, though. The gun t-shirts I wear around my friends are usually really insulting to people who are against gun ownership, and I’ll never be caught apologizing for that.

All in all, I have found that the gun t-shirts that I wear are extremely useful in showing people what I mean when I say, “I believe in gun rights.” To be honest, I have actually had some pretty lively discussions that have left me thinking critically about my stance. My mind has never been changed, but I am not so dense as I can not appreciate other people’s views. There have also been discussions where I have changed the minds of others. Whatever the outcome, gun t-shirts are a great tool for gun owners.

With much anticipation, I have finally seen the culmination of awesome writing and fan outcry in the form of “The Walking Dead.” I am such a huge fan of the genre that I have been collecting and wearing zombie t-shirts for years. All of my friends would look at me funny every time I started going crazy over “The Walking Dead” comic that is written by Robert Kirkman. They, of course, had no idea what I was talking about and they had no clue that comics could be for adults too. Now that “the Walking dead” is an acclaimed television show, everyone can join in on my fanatical dedication to this awesome story.

The story has been created for the small screen by a duo of Frank Darabont and the comic’s author, Robert Kirkman. Frank Darabont is the creator of such acclaimed films as “The Green Mile” and “Shawshank Redemption.” With his masterful skill at creating compelling stories based around intense character studies, he was a perfect fit to help Kirkman bring this story to life. Both of these men know that the key to a good zombie apocalypse story is all about the depth of the characters. I have several zombie t-shirts that feature the characters from my favorite stories over the zombies themselves.

The acting crew behind this show has done an outstanding job so far. Andrew Lincoln heads a stellar cast in the role of Rick Grimes, a police officer who has woken up from a coma in the worst possible scenario you can imagine: a world of zombies. He does a wonderful job as Rick, who’s signature fault is taking on the responsibility of leading and caring for a large group of survivors. You can see each death striking him as a deeply-felt wound. The boy who plays his son, Carl, is a young man by the name of Chandler Riggs and is doing a magnificent job dealing with very hard issues for someone so young. I love these characters so much, that I have several zombie t-shirts that feature them from the comic.

One of the arguably best things they’ve done in this series is deviate strongly from the original story featured in Kirkman’s comic. Some people rant and rave against not staying true to the original story, but I do not agree. Frankly, there are many scenes that would work well on paper but would not translate quite so well onto film. Changing the story up, introducing new characters, and keeping some alive while killing others makes the story new to me. They never even went to the Center For Disease control in the comic, but it was heavily featured in the first season of the show. None of that is going to stop me from buy “Walking Dead” zombie t-shirts and other merchandise.

The second season has just begun on the AMC channel, and I can’t say enough good things about it. The survivors are on the move and the writers have thrown down the gauntlet by making the entire first episode of season two tense and anxiety-inspiring. The very first monologue of the show features Rick talking to no one on a walkie-talkie, venting his inner fears and pain. The scene is so powerful, that I literally got goose bumps. Watch the show, and you’ll be buying zombie t-shirts like me in no time.

I have lived in a cycle of depression and sadness for the last ten years of my life. Incidentally, I have been married for ten years and have hosted Thanksgiving AND Christmas at our house for the combined families for nine of those ten years.
