We all know the most commonly worn, and often understated, article of clothing: the t-shirt. We all have a few in our closest and I would be shocked if you said you didn’t. I have compiled some ideas and tips to help you wear those t-shirts in new ways.

Wear a t-shirt like a blouse: Even though t-shirt are casual wear that doesn’t mean it has to look like casual wear. First tuck your shirt into your pants, skirt, or shorts. Then layer on some necklaces, a vest, or even a blazer. If your sleeves show then try folding or rolling them up to finish off the look.

Tone down a dressy outfit: Are you dying to find a way to wear your amazing metallic suit jacket or fabulous leather leggings without looking overboard on the fancy? Fear not, your problem is easily solved by throwing on a longer loose fitted tee or tank in a neutral color.

The artsy tee: The days of the ironic tees are over, thank goodness! Now it is all about the artsy tee. Artsy t-shirts tend to add a slightly mature look to the graphic tee. Generally they have no words, but if so then the type is usually very stylized. Artsy tees have that certain something that can be rocked dressed up or dressed down.

If you need words, use minimalism: We understand that sometimes you simply can not pass up those slogan t-shirts, it is human nature. So ok get that typography tee, but make sure it is short and sweet, and big printed!

A solid shirt highlights accents: Use a solid neutral colored t-shirt to highlight your cool make up or wow red lip color. You can also use the solid shirt to bring a sharp focus on you colored pants without overwhelming the viewer. Solid t-shirts are also ideal for layering on the necklaces. Just remember to have fun with it.

Show you care: This is the one time you can break all the rules, because it is amazing to wear a shirt in support of something you believe in. Who cares if it has too many words or looks over produced, IT MEANS SOMETHING! If you are wearing a t-shirt that supports breast caner awareness, an MS walk, or just a belief then wear your shirt with pride.

Barrow from the boy: If you are dying to bring out your boyish side or just simply your rocker side, than this tip is for you. There is a reason why boys always wear t-shirt, they know what to do with them! So it is time to think like a boy. Grab a band tee or just a t-shirt you love and pair it with a boy style blazer or vest. To keep it a little feminine add some heels and a clutch.
