Purchasing a new digital camera can be a very overwhelming experience. Technology is continually changing and there seems to be upgraded cameras available every month! With these changes you can still ensure that you purchase the right camera for your needs by understanding the technology. You will not be able to understand all of it, however you can gain the knowledge to make the right decisions. This article will cover the features of digital cameras that are most important for you to understand.

To begin with me will discuss the similarities between film and digital cameras. Basically a camera is a light airtight box that allows exposure of a light-sensitive material through the use of a shutter and an aperture. This process is the same with either a digital or film camera.

Both types of cameras have Lenses, which focus the image and control how the image will look (wide or telephoto). The lens is also one of the most important factors in determining overall image quality. The better the lens quality, the sharper and more clear your image. In film or digital photography- poor lenses=poor image quality.

Both types of cameras also use shutters to maintain the duration of the exposure. Both film and digital cameras need an aperture to control how much light hits the sensor during the period that the shutter is open. Very large apertures (2.8 or 4) will let in a lot of light, while small apertures (16 or 22) will let in very little light.

Focusing will always be a necessary step in creating sharp photographs regardless of whether you are using film or digital cameras. Manual and auto focusing can be found on both types of cameras. So what are the differences between the two? The main difference is the way in which the cameras record light. The traditional camera uses film while the digital camera has a sensor and a processor. Understanding the way the sensor and processor work is the key to knowing digital cameras.

Film Advance, Lag and Response Time The digital sensor records light much like film cameras do. The difference is that when light strikes film it is “exposed” and the camera must advance the film to the next frame in order to allow the user to take another photograph. With digital photography, the image that was captured during exposure is passed on to the processor and the sensor is then freed up to record another image. Advance Time is the amount of time it takes for the sensor to release its information and be ready to record again. The speed of the digital camera is also influenced by how many images it can store in its memory before the camera needs a time out to process them. A typical statistic you might find could be “23 full-res(resolution) JPEGs or 6 RAW images at 5 fps”(Canon 20D). In common language this means the camera will shoot 5 images per second until the memory fills up. The memory will become full at 6 exposures if you are shooting RAW and 23 if you are shooting the highest quality JPEG.

Film Advance, Lag and Response Time The digital sensor records light much like film. Once the light strikes film however, it is “exposed” and the camera must advance the film to the next frame to continue the process. With digital, the information that was captured during exposure is passed on to the processor and the sensor is freed up to record another image. The amount of time it takes for the sensor to “dump” its information and be ready to record again is called Advance Time. The digital camera’s speed is also influenced by how many images it can store in the buffer before the camera needs a time out to process them. A typical statistic could be “23 full-res(resolution) JPEGs or 6 RAW images at 5 fps”(Canon 20D). This means the camera will shoot 5 frames per second until the buffer fills up. The buffer will become full at 6 exposures if you are shooting RAW and 23 if you are shooting the highest quality JPEG.

ISO The ability to change ISOs at any time is one of the many benefits of digital cameras. ISO refers to the sensitivity of the sensor in a digital camera and film in traditional cameras. The higher the ISO setting the less light is needed to strike the film. With traditional film cameras, if you wanted to get a faster shutter speed due to low light or fast action, you needed to change to a higher ISO film. At best this could be wasteful or inconvenient . The nice thing about digital cameras is that you can change the ISO as you go. With digital cameras it is possible to be photographing outside in bright sunlight with a low ISO (for better color and image quality) and then walk indoors, you can easilty change the ISO and continue shooting.

As with many things, this increased sensitivity does have its drawbacks. When using film you might get an excess of grain, with digital photography you get what is called noise. The grain you might see on your film, in most cases, is generally considered acceptable and even might be desired in some cases. On the other hand noise does not have the same allure. Unlike different emulsions of film, the sensor really only has one sensitivity. To manage an increased ISO, or during very long exposures, the camera must send more power to the sensor, which often will result in the appearance of small specks or dots of white or color. You will also sometimes see a blotchy look which is created from the higher ISO’s or long exposures. Generally most of the noise is generally manifested in the darker areas of your photograph. If your photography requires higher ISO settings this is an important point to pay attention to; this often occurs during nighttime or long exposures. In higher priced cameras, manufacturers have spent the money to reduce the noise problem, but it still may present itself on the less expensive models. Look to reviews for how much noise individual cameras will produce.

Resolution Resolution is probably one of the most talked about but least understood features of digital cameras. Most people believe the higher the resolution the better. This is true, generally speaking. However more resolution doesn’t always mean better photographs.

Resolution Probably the least understood and most talked about feature of digital cameras. The more the better, right? Well, most of the time. More resolution doesn’t always mean better photographs.

Please don’t forget, it is common to see cameras that are equal in resolution but have different size sensors. In cases like this I would go for the larger sensor. So how can you figure out how much resolution you do need? It’s very simple really. Just ask yourself how large of a picture do you want to make. The 3 and 4 Megapixel cameras are plenty sufficient for everything will print good quality pictures up to 8×10. If you want to make larger printsyou can move up to the 5 and 6 Megapixel cameras.

White Balance White balance refers to the processors ability to create “correct” color in your pictures. The digital camera sensor always captures “raw” information and then the camera processor processes it and sends it to the memory card.

Lenses Lenses play a major part in creating high image quality, along with the sensor and processor. Luckily in todays marketplace we are at a place in time where most lenses are of a very high quality. So we now know that speed and length are the qualities that you should look at. Speed refers to the fastest -stop of the lens. 2.8 is faster than 3.5, which is faster than 4. A faster lens allows you to shoot in lower light conditions without raising your ISO. It also allows you to achieve a shallow depth of field, which should result in a blurred back or foreground.

Buying a new digital camera

Focal length is the next consideration. Do you like to shoot with wide-angle lenses? Long telephoto lenses? Do you enjoy shooting up close with macro lenses? Digital cameras come with all of the same lens options that your film camera does. It is just a matter of choosing the camera with the qualities that you want. By looking at magazines or stepping on to the web and going to dpreview.com you can easily find the specifications that describe all of the options.

When it comes to focal length it is important to remember that two sets of specifications are generally given. The first is usually the actual focal length of the lens. For example, 7mm-28mm. This would be an extreme wide angle on a film camera. The digital camera however, has a smaller sensor area then the film camera which makes the 7mm lens look more like a 35mm lens. So the second set of numbers on this lens would be 35mm-136mm. This is generally called the 35mm equivalent. When looking for a digital camera these are the numbers you should pay attention to when checking for focal range as they will be more familiar to you.

Most amateur digital cameras do not provide real wide angle lens choices. They will commonly go down to 35mm or even 28mm but rarely can you find a 24mm or wider. This is mainly due to the difficulties in building such a small focal length lenses. So if you enjoy wide angle photography you many want to think about moving up to a digital SLR.

The digital cameras have a big advantage when it comes to long telephoto lenses! The smaller sensor size will turn even moderate telephotos into very long lenses. For example a real 57mm focal length behaves like a 370mm! This is very important to people who like to shoot “long”. Some cameras claim their longest focal length as Digital Zoom. It is important to beware of this. Digital Zoom should always be avoided. For this topic we are concerned only with real or actual focal lengths.

The last lens specification to consider is the focusing distance. If you like or need to shoot macro, look for a lens that focuses very close. They will usually be signified by a “macro mode” or be called “close focusing”.

Shooting your digital camera in the field Using your digital camera should be the fun part. Do not let all of the bells and whistles confuse you when it comes time to take your photos. We agree that there are many choices and they can be a bit overwhelming. Here we have listed three of the most important things you should always check before you start photographing.

ISO- If you are outdoors or in areas where you have plenty of light keep the ISO set to a low (100 or 50). Raise the ISO only when you need to prevent camera shake. Typically most digital cameras will provide great images all the way up to 400 ISO. If you need to go higher than 400 ISO, you must know that you may run the risk of introducing a visible amount of noise to your photos. Take some time and play with your digital camera to figure out which ISO produces unacceptable noise levels.

Jpeg vs. Raw- This choice is an easy one. If you want to work on every image in your computer, shoot RAW. This format is much more flexible and allows you to correct for errors in exposure and color cast without degrading your image quality. If you do not have the time or desire to work on every image, then shoot in the highest quality Jpeg mode. This mode will use a minimum amount of image compression which will provide extremely high quality pictures.

Image Size- Many cameras will come with multiple resolutions. Your choices may look like this: 2304×1728, 1600×1200, 1280×960, 640×480. Simply put, always choose the highest resolution. In this case that would be 2304×1728. This will supply you with the highest quality images possible.

Digital Camera Accessories There are nearly as many accessories for digital cameras as there are digital cameras. There are loads of options available: cases, cards and storage units. Don’t open your wallet just yet, there are only a very few accessories that are considered absolute necessities.

Compact Flash-The first is the type of storage that your camera uses. I prefer cameras the use Compact Flash. This medium seems to be the best all around Flash Card. Sturdy, durable, not too small to lose or to big to be bulky. It also comes in very large capacities-up to 8 gigabytes! My recommendation is to have a least two cards in case one becomes damaged or lost. Your total amount of storage will be determined on how much you want to spend on your cards (cameras rarely ship with a card that is adequate for most photographic purposes). Having two 512Mb cards seems to be adequate for most shooting situations, unless you are very trigger happy. Having 4 of these cards or two 1 GB cards will ensure that you will never be without storage.

Portable Storage-If you have invested in enough Flash Card storage, you will probably not need a portable storage unit. This is however contingent on downloading your cards on a daily basis. If you are in a situation where you will not have access to your computer for long periods of time (in order to upload your photos from your camera to your computer) you may want to consider a portable storage unit. The idea of a Portable Storage unit is to move your photos from your Flash Card to the storage unit thereby freeing up space on the card. You can then put the card back into your camera, reformat it, and continue taking pictures. When you return home you simply attach the storage unit to your computer and transfer the images to your computers harddrive. Most Portable Storage units come with enough space for many days of shooting. A recommendation would be to purchase a unit with at least 10Gb of storage.

Storage and photo transfer are some of the most basic functions which all of the models will perform. To go beyond this point they can get really fancy. Some units will automatically burn Cds from your cards, which is nice in that it produces an immediate archive of your images. Others come with an Lcd screen that enables you to view your photographs right on the storage unit. Advanced features will even enable you to organize your images into folders and albums. An important consideration is to think about the length of time you will be away from your computer before purchasing one of these storage units. Once you consider your needs you may find that you may not need one.

Extra Batteries / Charger Digital cameras go through batteries at an alarming rate. You will definitely need to have back up batteries. Given that you will go through so many batteries, rechargeable batteries are the intelligent choice. Most digital cameras come with a proprietary battery with a charger. This is helpful as it allows a stronger battery. If this is your situation, it is a good idea to purchase extra batteries when you buy your camera. If your camera is powered by common AA batteries, you would be wise to buy a couple sets of rechargeable batteries.

Bulb blower- If you are considering an interchangeable lens SLR this is a must as when you change lens on these types of cameras it is common to introduce dust into the camera body. Ultimately this will migrate to your sensor and embed itself as small blurry splotches on your final image. It is a smart investment of your time to spend a few seconds with the blower bulb which will save you hours on the computer cleaning up your photographs!

You simply have to pick the music types you require and proceed with loading your Ipod. With the paid websites, although you don’t have to make payments for every song your download, you are still obligated to make a membership fee.

While the paid websites are legitimately recognized and known for quality services, the cost-free sites typically operate on a peer-to-peer system. In fact, while downloading from these sites, you could be making access instead to a private and unsecured PC for music files. If that specific computer is infested with viruses, your PC may well be the next candidate.

There are indeed, various ways to fill your Ipod Nano with music, but the safe and sure ways are few. This is why you need to be armed with the right knowledge before you decide on a specific course of action. You can download music to Ipod Nano seamlessly, through the best websites and reliable procedures.

  • Fundamentals of DVD shrink software

    by Ethan Hunter

DVD shrink software is one of the prime software applications used to copy or shrink original DVDs. These DVD shrink software programs are generally used for creating back ups for DVD movies. Generally, the shrink software transfers the DVD into a 4.7 GB DVD from the 8.5 GB dual layer DVDs. This 4.7 GB DVDs are single layer DVDs. The basic function of the DVD shrinks software is to re-encode the movie into lesser space by removing the extra contents like subtitle, footage, and so on.

DVD shrink software is one of the most amazing software programs invented in the fast-changing scenario of science and technology. It can reproduce a number of DVDs from one mother copy. There is hardly any other software program that can be compared to DVD shrink software for its almost magical capacity to produce so many duplicates flawlessly, without compromising on the quality of the original DVDs. DVD shrink software is basically a free software popular as DVD transcoder, limited within one executable one-megabyte file.

A multipurpose interface is one of the major features of the DVD shrink software. This interface, in particular, provides the user with opportunity to choose among their preferred DVD constituents. DVD shrink software allows the user to choose among the audio tracks, sub titles, menus and even video titles in order to shrink the DVDs. The software performs this task with the help of decryption algorithm and a VBR encoder. In addition to this, users also are free to guide operation of compression at any part of the movie. This DVD shrink software is able to convert the DVD by minimizing it up to 39% of the original size.

Another interesting feature of the DVD shrink software is its capability to produce duplicates that are as good as the original DVD, and that too, in much less space. The software application first strips the copy protection and removes the restrictions in built in the DVD. Of course, you will require extra software programs to remove these prohibitions completely. Nonetheless, the DVD shrink software is capable of erasing the current types of copy protection like Macrovision Ripguard.

Though the DVD shrink software is not loaded with a built-in burning engine that can burn the images itself, it can take out an almost similar ISO image of the original file. The DVD shrink software can do this job with the help of the associate software.

The main task of the DVD shrink software is to compress the data of the original DVD, which it can do by partially removing content. But it is harmful to erase this completely, as it might destroy the DVD software menu. In order to overcome this hurdle, you can use the high-compression facility that supports the task of “placeholder” for the original to compress some sections of the DVD. The critics of DVD shrink software say that this software is not compatible all sorts of hardware or DVD players. This criticism is levied against most of the software applications. It does not undermine the various uses of DVD shrink software.

  • The Desire of Dedicated Web Hosting

    by Johnson

Whether you are a newbie or an experienced webmaster one thing which you will need to have your websites online is a web hosting service which is necessary for every website owner or webmaster. Only those people should preferably opt for a dedicated server who have a serious website and who wants to run a successful business. There are various webs hosting services each of which are useful in different ways. By using the advanced web hosting services all the clients can create many email accounts along with many mailing facilities which assist them for proper managing of the mail account. And for that you need to make sure that your company website has a user friendly interface.

The plan is simple and similar to the real life comparison of passengers sharing a same cab and paying a relatively lower fare to reach their destination. The unmanaged server requires you to run the server entirely on your own. And among the several webs hosting services “shared web hosting” is by far the most popular type of web hosting, and are ideal and economical options for most websites to keep overhead cost minimum. Many people find it a bit difficult for it requires a certain amount of technical expertise.

It proves to be the most popular and cost effective choice for businesses, organizations, or people looking to host a website. The amount of data transfer that you host gives per month is the network bandwidth. It should be manageable for your website and scripts to function properly. Check the offered control panels and try a demo to make sure you are comfortable with it. When you opt to rent the entire server for your own use, and then it can be termed as a dedicated server. Also monitor the web stats. Count the number of FTP, email, databases, sub domains, parked and add-on domains they offer.

A dedicated server will give you special freedom with regard to web hosting as you don’t have to worry for shared or limited resources of any server like you deal in shared hosting as in case of dedicated server you own the whole machine for your business website thus full server with its complete capacity works for you and your business website only.

If you have a dedicated server then you don’t face any hassles involved in the case of sharing with other websites. You can even look for some money saving coupons on net. For the servers to be made available in their data centers, web hosts even offer data center space and internet connections.

    Selecting Text In Microsoft Word

    by Andrew Whiteman

Before you can format or edit your text, you need to highlight it. Highlighting your text is a way of telling Microsoft Word that you plan to work with a certain piece of text. (Highlighting is also known as selecting.)

The simplest way of selecting text is to position the cursor where you want to start highlighting, click and hold the mouse button down and drag to the spot where you want to end the highlight. It is not essential that you drag across every single line that you want to highlight. It is sufficient to drag in a straight line from the start to the finish.

To deselect your text and remove the highlight, simply click anywhere in your text. The flashing text cursor will then reappear.

Another simple way of selecting text is to select the entire document. This is done via the “Select All” command. In Word 2007, the “Select All” command is found in the “Editing” section of the “Home” Tab. Click to display the “Select” menu and choose “Select All”.

The “Select All” command is found in many programs and many environments. It can also be accessed from the keyboard using Control-A: just hold down the Control key while typing “A”.

As well as selecting characters by dragging across them, Word also allows you to select whole lines. To do this, place the cursor in the left margin and you’ll notice that it changes to an arrow pointing to the right. Once the cursor changes, you can simply click once to select a single line or click and drag to select multiple lines.

Another way of highlighting text is to click several times. To highlight a single word, double click on the word; to highlight an entire paragraph, click three times anywhere in the paragraph.

It is also possible to select text using the keyboard. Most of these options involve using the Shift key. One such technique is click followed by Shift-click. First, click to mark the start of the area that needs to be highlighted; next hold down the Shift key and click to position the cursor at the point where you want the highlighting to end. All the text between the two clicks will then be highlighted.

To highlight text without the mouse, use the cursor keys on your keyboard to position the cursor where you want your highlight to begin. Next, press Shift in conjunction with one of the cursor keys. To highlight character by character, press the right or left cursor key depending on the required direction. To highlight line by line press the down or up cursor key.

The Shift key can also be used together with the Control key. For example, if you hold down Control and Shift then press the right arrow, you will highlight word by word instead of character by character. Similarly, if you hold down Control and Shift and press the down cursor key, you will highlight paragraph by paragraph.

The Home and End keys can also be used in making selections. For example, if the cursor is positioned in the middle of a line, pressing Shift and Home will highlight from that position to the start of the line while pressing Shift and End will highlight from the cursor position to the end of the line. Holding down Control and Shift while pressing the right arrow will highlight from the cursor position to the start of the document. Control, Shift and End will highlight from the cursor position to the end of the document.

  • How to Use Photoshop to Restore Old Photos

    by David Peters

There are times that people may have old photographs they would like to restore to save the memories. Photos usually get damaged through the times. The pictures may get blurred, the color fades and the picture might acquire marks and scratches. Thank the technology of today. People can now save and restore their old photos with the help of Photoshop.

The person may use the Elements in Photoshop, which are Dust and Scratch Filter to remove the marks, scratches an blots in the photo. The Dust and Scratches Filter is located on the Menu Bar and click on the Filter Tab. A drop down will list elements and then he can choose the Noise tab and select on the Dust and Scratches.

After clicking on the Dust and Scratches menu, a window will pop up with two control sliders. The first slider is for the Radius and the other one is for the Threshold. There will also be another window if the preview box will be checked. These are the main options that will be used in treating the picture.

To remove scratches you will want to use the Radius slider. Too much adjustment can result in the edges blurring so please be careful with how much you adjust. If blurring occurs you can adjust the Threshold slider to allow the details to return and make the photograph clearer with the scratches disappearing. Again, you want to be careful not to set them too far or it will create blotches on the picture.

In removing the marks, selecting the whole photo will not diffuse these marks. The option is to select only the part where the scratches are located. He may use the Lasso to do this.

Once you have fixed some of these problems you can use the feathering tool to blend the edges of the selected area so that the manipulated area will not be obvious on the photograph. The feathering tool is located under the Feather option. You will want to repeat the process of adjusting the Radius and Threshold sliders to get the texture needed and remove all the scratches from the photograph.

You will want to continue to follow these steps if there are still visible marks on the other parts of the picture until all the marks are removed. To finalize the process and make the picture presentable, you can crop the image enough to remove any cracks and torn edges on the picture. The canvas may be use to equally crop the image.

You can also add drama to the photograph by adding a drop shadow. Drop shadows make the photograph appear as if it has been lifted off the page by placing a shadow underneath it. You can also remove color from the photograph by using the controls Shift Ctrl U. To make your photograph appear old you can use a little amount of Sepia coloring. This can be achieved using the Hue or Saturation tab. Contrast can be adjusted using the Levels option.

These steps are one very simple way to remove any blotches or marks on an older photograph. These tips are also a good way to make the picture look new but still appear classical. This is an easy and pleasant way to display photographs kept in old albums and cabinets for a long time.

Clustered Web Hosting is structured to eradicate the intrinsic errors, which are usually found in shared hosting systems. A clustered approach to web hosting can take the sites to a new level as it overcomes the limitations of one physical server. It means grouping of numerous servers and networking them together to share the work stack. A site which caters this service is called as Clustered Web Hosting. A clustered approach to web hosting can take the sites to a new level as it overcomes the limitations of one physical server.

The resources of websites are drawn so accurately that a particular website is not confined to only one server. The other benefit is that, even if one server is under threat there are lots of back us available and the other servers are available to share the load. In this case, all websites have their own service redundancy which helps in maximizing the consistency of their server.

It involves sharing of the processed power of numerous servers; Clustered web hosting is structured in such a way, such that the intrinsic errors are eradicated. The resources of websites are drawn so accurately that a particular website is not confined to only one server. It also means using huge amount of power from the entire pool of server.

These errors are generally found in shared hosting system, this means grouping of a number of servers and then networking them so that the work stack can be shared. Clustered web hosting is the site that caters to this service. When account of client gets changed, then this information gets transmitted speedily to each and every server present in the cluster.

In usual hosting situations, the security tiers are not generally incorporated in the platforms. Hence, many hosts implement firewall method to combat the weakness. In this case the resources of the websites are drawn so accurately that a particular web site is not confined to only one server. Clustered hosting platform has many levels of security. When account of client gets changed, then this information gets transmitted speedily to each and every server present in the cluster. The network of a typical Clustered hosting has intellectual routing, superfluous switching structure, in built firewall and one proxy tool. The consistency of the server is maximized as all web sites have their own service redundancy. This renders high benefits than other traditional hosting techniques.

If you are a business person, you have a good chance of being involved in e commerce or electronic commerce. E commerce is the latest innovation in business and you probably have an online store or at the very least a catalogue online.

Companies that do business on the internet, or online companies, operate their businesses all day, every day, online, using highly effective and top notch tools and services to market their product. These services are offered by Ecommerce web hosting solutions companies.

Each day that passes sees the creation of more internet stores. That has increased the need for top-notch e-commerce solutions, which have risen to fill that need. Additionally, with the increase of e-commerce solutions there has been the increased need for e-commerce hosting businesses to fill the need.

E commerce web sites have protections given them from e commerce hosting services. These services give nearly one hundred percent guaranteed, stable hosting servers to all it’s client companies, giving them stability and keeping them up and running constantly.

The reaction of your customers to your website and the effect your site has on your customers is decided to a great degree by the e-commerce hosting solution you decide to use.

The services provided by the e commerce hosting go along way to either making or breaking your web based business. Because your clientele are your primary interest you should seek out a hosting and service provider who is known for their reliability and usefulness to business.

There are some basic steps to choosing a hosting service:

    1. After evaluating the available e commerce service providers by themselves, make a comparison between them.

    2. Examine the available services and how well the web sites are maintained and what kind of tech support is available and so on..

    3. Investigate things like security, and the speed of service, and how frequent loss of uptime is. You will also want to know about the email services available to you the client.

    4. You will also want to know what added services they might provide ? how easy are the control panels to customize, and what software is available, how about access and options on scripts (ie; ftp access on file sharing)? Can you access server logs and reports easily? These are sought after extra services.

Your customers will come to rely on you when your e-commerce host provides good services and security attributes. This reliance will lead them to have no hesitation at trusting you with personal information because they will know that there will be no misuse. Add to that secure servers and encrypting of data and their confidence in you will soar.

Don’t overlook speed when checking out e-commerce host servers. The average consumer likes doing business online for the simple reason that it’s fast and convenient, but if your site is slow on uploading there is a good chance that they will move on to a different website. A slow site drives away customers.

So, if you deem it necessary, your hosts must be able to provide you expansion offers. Further, you must be able to send and receive large files through the e-mail service provided by the hosts. Also, your uptime resolution must be maintained-not doing so can drive away customers from your ecommerce business.

With an e commerce hosting service that offers top-of-the-line fast service, you are sure to see your business become prosperous and have many satisfied customers.

People often wonder how to choose ecommerce software that will work for them, how to use this software to get their online business rolling, and how to use the software most effectively to maximize their online business.

Any thing you can imagine can be sold online. These days, online transactions may not even involve real goods or serviceseven virtual goods have a market! This versatility means the ecommerce will work for a lot of businesses. However, setting up a system for receiving payment can seem overwhelming. Using a preexisting software package for handling transactions is a good solution.

People making money on the internet are as many as they are varied. Homemade goods are popular, as are specialty goods that may not be available everywhere. In this case, you need to consider shipping. Will you offer international shipping? What will you charge?

To simplify shipping, many online retailers have moved into offering virtual goods and services. These products can be delivered electronically, simplifying delivery and reducing costs. Online delivery is not as simple as it sounds, however. If you are selling customized online services, it is important to secure payment before you have completed any work. Otherwise the customer may decide to cancel the order after you have already wasted valuable time.

What do you need to know to begin using an ecommerce system? First of all, it is important to choose reliable ecommerce software and use it correctly to avoid having technical glitches on your site. Technical problems are a huge turnoff to customers, who will see technical problems as a sign that your business is not reliable.

Once you have picked a solution, make sure you familiarize yourself with the system you have chosen. When you have, start implementing it on your website. It is critical that your payment system looks professional and trustworthy in order to attract customers. Website design will play a major role in achieving this goal.

Once your online business is open, it is important to continue using your ecommerce system correctly. Your customers should continue to receive reliable service without glitches. Delayed or troubled service will cause you to lose customers, just as it would for an offline business. Keeping your business running smoothly keeps your customers happy and will allow your sales to grow.

Armed with this knowledge, you are ready to explore ecommerce for your business. Once you have chosen the best system, learned to use it, and incorporated it well in your web site and business model, the real work begins. Choosing the right web server will be one of the most important decisions you will ever make with your online business. Why? Because the web server you choose will literally make or break your online business.

Today I am going to discuss two types of servers; Virtual Web Hosting and Virtual Private Servers.

Over the last couple of years Virtual Web Hosting has been the only way to go when choosing a web server. One of the reasons that Virtual Web Hosting became so popular was because they supported the necessary files and allowed you to have more freedom than other conventional web hosts. Now you can have more freedom than ever before with Virtual Private Servers. Moreover, Virtual Private Servers should not be confused with Virtual Hosts, because they are completely different.

Before we go any further I must explain what the difference is between a Virtual Host and a Virtual Private Server, so that you can fully understand. In this article I will also go over the advantages and disadvantages of both types of servers, to help you decide which is right for you and your business. Let’s get started discussing Virtual Hosting.

    Virtual Hosting Web Hosting Accounts

Virtual Hosting is also known as Shared Web Hosting, where you are sharing the physical server and a single set of software applications with other users. Virtual Hosting has been extremely popular in the past for its fast deployment, strong resources, and most importantly for having a very reasonable price. Another advantage to Virtual Hosting is that you have a powerful, reliable, and professionally managed server without having to have advanced technical skills, making it ideal for an individual, small business, or even a beginner.

The disadvantage of Virtual Hosting is that you are sharing the server with other users. The server is configured and controlled by an administrator, not you. So basically you have your hands tied behind your back, because you have to contact the administrator every time you need to adjust or change your server’s configuration settings. Even if you managed to get a hold of the administrator, they may not fulfill your request. It’s up to them to help you or not to help you. They are the administrator. If you were the administrator, you wouldn’t have these limitations and would have total control.

    Virtual Private Servers Web Hosting

Virtual Private Servers are a hot topic these days and for a good reason. Before I get into the advantages of a Virtual Private Server, let me explain what it is first. A Virtual Private Server is a single server that is partitioned at the root into multiple dedicated servers. This allows you to share the cost of the network connectivity, hardware, and system maintenance with other hosting customers, while maintaining your flexibility and freedom.

The advantage of Virtual Private Servers is that they allow you to have complete control over your web hosting account. They have the security advantages of a dedicated server at the fraction of the cost. Among other things, you have access to the virtual root, Telnet, web configuration files, full CGI-BIN access, your password, aliases file, and send mail configuration file. You can see that a Virtual Private Server is an excellent solution for Internet businesses.

One disadvantage with Virtual Private Servers is that you need to have some program knowledge to control and configure the settings. Sounds overwhelming, most businesses that offer Virtual Private Servers have very detailed manuals making them very easy to configure and control no matter what your program level is. We use HostEasier.com because their support staff always answers our questions within a few hours.

Which type of server is right for you? That all depends on you and the size of your network.

Just one web site and have absolutely no programming knowledge? Then Virtual Hosting is the recommended and cheapest way for you to go. A Virtual Host can cost anywhere around $10 a month for an account, rather than $35 and up for a Virtual Private Server.

If you have a larger network that requires multiple web sites, and you have some technical skills, then a Virtual Private Server is perfect for you. You can host many web sites on a Virtual Private Server account, instead of having multiple Virtual Hosting accounts, which will cost you more money per month.

When it comes time to get web hosting, make sure that the server fits your needs and that it supports the essential software for a prosperous Internet business. We personally give a 5-STAR rating to HostEasier.com because of their low prices, reliability, and excellent 24/7 customer support staff. They really care about your needs, and really can help solve your server problems.

The best way store all kinds of data is in DVDs. It is so easy to transfer data stored in a DVD to any other source like the DVD, CD or the hard disc of the computer. Science and technology has come up with so many types of software programs to transfer data from DVDs. There are different types of DVD to DVD copy software programs available in the market, but not all of them are authentic. These fake DVD-to-DVD copy software programs are very cheap, but the quality of the duplicates is awful. Therefore, beware of the cheap DVD to DVD copy software, or you will regret your decision.

Apart from the cheap and low quality DVD to DVD copy software, numerous excellent software programs provide quality and easy DVD backups. The burning engine provided in the software programs can produce perfect 1:1 DVD copies. By quality DVD backups, it means that the picture users get is unparallel. In the cheap DVD to DVD copy software, the images are distorted and the sound quality is very low as well. However, with quality DVD to DVD copy software, the users do not have to think about the quality of the picture and sound; they are just similar to the original one, without any distortion. It means that the copied disc remains 100% similar to the original disc without any quality loss. Actually, in the DVD to DVD copy software programs you can be assured about the prefect synchronization of audio and video.

The DVD to DVD copy software can copy DVD movies to different files like NRG, ISO, etc, and can directly backup DVD movies to the hard drives like NFTS, FAT32, etc. Moreover, the software can copy Region-protected, Copies CSS-Encrypted and Sony Across protected DVD movies.

Though the DVD to DVD copy software programs mainly support HD DVD movies or Blu-ray, they can be customized to your own choice with the technology of intelligent identification. This technology enables the program to recognize the format of the disc and produce the appropriate copy of the options and the modes. SmartAnalyser is an example of the customized version of these unique and innovative technologies.

Other features of the DVD to DVD copy software programs include the trial version, with which you can become an expert in DVD backup with just a click and make a full copy free of cost. These software programs support all the standard players, like NTSC, PAL, and others. The good quality DVD to DVD copy software programs ensure high speed of burning ability. Moreover, they can support in multiple languages, and show the previews of the extras, menus, and main movies.

The process of copying through DVD to DVD copy software programs is very simple. You become an expert in DVD backup with just a few clicks of the mouse. No wonder, it is most popular among the beginners.

  • DVD Shrink for Windows: Functions and Features

    by Ethan Hunter

DVD Shrink is a software program designed especially for Microsoft Windows. It is used to copy DVDs, which are larger than the usual 4.7 GB by shrinking them and fitting them into the disk of the normal size (4.7 GB). This software allows the preparation of a backup copy of a commercial DVD. Let us look at the functions of the DVD Shrink for Windows in detail.

You can download the software of DVD shrink for Windows from the internet and use it to make copies of DVDs. With the DVD shrink for Windows you can store the commercial DVD in a much smaller space. This is its main advantage. It makes storing data very convenient.

The DVD shrink software deletes the unnecessary material and reproduces a copy that is as good as the original. You cannot access the disk itself in this program because the crossover does not allow the program to see the physical drive. You need some free hard drive space to copy the entire DVD shrink for Windows in your hard drive. The copying is sometimes from 4.7 GB to even 9 GB. There is the need to encode it in DVD Shrink and then prepare another 4.7 GB disc image. The built-in burn functionality will also not be usable.

If you want to access your DVD Shrink for Windows, you will need an application that will rip the DVD to your hard drive. There is the system to rip your DVD to your hard drive and a folder will be created with the name of your DVD. There will be a ‘Video_TS’ folder in it. The DVD Shrink for Windows that was ripped to the hard drive needs to be opened up. The ‘Open Files’ button has to be clicked and the ‘Video_TS’ folder has to be browsed.

If the files are on your desktop, you can use the file browser to access the folder ‘My Mac Desktop’. The hard drive displays a few different ways in your browser. To find the name of your disc, if you have stored it in some external disc, you would need to use the ‘/’ and ‘volumes’ options. Like some Mac Users, you may find this very perplexing because when you open the DVD Shrink for windows, there can be some changes in the settings.

The backup button is clicked and there are a couple of options to save your work. The work can be saved as a disk image which can be burned later on to a DVD Shrink for Windows. You may choose any option but you now have an operational edition of the disc you started out with in the first place. You get it on a smaller, regular DVD Shrink for Windows now. If you want to know how to burn a disc image using disk utility toy, you need to open disk utility and open an image from the ‘File’ menu. After that is done, select the image in the left hand pane and click on ‘burn’.

This is the standard method that can be used in case of many other applications as well. Once you know how to use the DVD Shrink for windows, you can create DVD copies in DVD Shrink for windows.

  • How To Automatically Capitalize A String In PHP

    by Chris Channing

Developing a web application in PHP takes a long time, depending on the complexity of the project. Thus, programmers should make use of time-saving functions that allows them to improve efficiency both for them and others who work with what they have created. One such function to delve into is UCWords- a particularly nice time-saver.

UCWords in particular is an easy function to learn since it only accepts one argument: the string that you wish to manipulate. If done correctly, the function will then be able to capitalize the first letter of every word in a given string. Similar functions such as StrToUpper will actual capitalize each letter in the string, so be sure to make the distinction between the bunch.

One of the most popular applications of the UCWords function is to ensure that user input from a form is uniform with other data received. This is quite easy to see in social networking websites, which typically automatically capitalize the name of their users on their profiles. When users receive an email, they’ll also notice their name is capitalized regardless if they capitalized it upon registration.

When webmasters want to reach a broad audience for their content, they will alter Meta tags to tell search engines how and to who they should display the webmaster’s resource. When webmasters format the “Title” tag for the Meta data, they should capitalize it to show a sense of professionalism. Using UCWords for this task is quite common, since it can dynamically do so.

By applying the UCWords function to a custom-made function, we can also alter strings to keep certain words lowercased. This is especially important for proper news resources, who know that proper title case is going to mean that some prepositions or words need to remain in lower case. By initializing an array of prepositions and selectively making them lowercased, web developers can ensure that there are no mistakes in how a title should appear.

Another gripe some PHP developers have with the UCWords function is that it won’t always display some characters correctly. But luckily for the majority of PHP developers, this won’t be a problem since this only happens with foreign characters that haven’t received language support from the development community. If a developer is affected by this, work arounds have been created, and the next release of PHP should bring solutions to this simple problem.

    Final Thoughts

UCWords has much functionality to take advantage of. If you think you would like to give it a try, consider looking around for a specific tutorial with examples on coding practice.

Microsoft Office Excel 2007 contains no menus or toolbars. However, it does include a feature called the Office Button which bears a remarkable similarity to a menu as well as a Quick Access Toolbar which functions a lot like the toolbars found in previous releases of Microsoft Office. In this article, we’ll take a look at these two features and see how they work.

    Excel’s Office Button

The Office Button is found in the top left of the Excel screen. When you click it, a menu appears which resembles menus found in most software programs and also in previous versions of Excel. The Office Button menu allows you to create, open, save and print documents. It also contains options for preparing documents for distribution, closing the currently active document and exiting Excel altogether.

The Office Button also contains a list of the recently opened files. Next to the name of each file is a pin icon. This icon is used to pin the associated document. Pinning a document means that it won’t disappear from the list of recently opened files. By contrast, unpinned documents will eventually disappear from the list as files are created and opened.

It is also here that you will find “Excel Options”. (This is equivalent to Tools-Options found in previous versions of Excel.) Excel Options are displayed as a column of categorised tabs on the left of the dialog. Just click on a tab to reveal options in that category. The Excel Options customise the way in which Excel works. Let’s look at a few examples…

Excel’s Developer Tab (which contains commands for working with macros) is not visible when Excel is first installed. To make Excel display it, choose “Excel Options” from the Office Button and, in the “Popular” category, switch on the option “Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon”.
A second example… By default, each new document you create has three sheets. If you find this too many or too few, you can change the number of sheets which each new work will contain. Choose “Excel Options” from the Office Button and, in the “Popular” category, under the section headed “When Creating New Workbooks Include this Many Sheets”, simply enter your preferred number of sheets for each new workbook you create.

    The Excel Quick Access Toolbar

The Excel Quick Access Toolbar is usually displayed in the top left of the screen, next to the Office Button. It functions in a similar way to the toolbars found in old versions of Microsoft Excel.

By default, the Quick Access Toolbar contains only three commands: saving the current workbook, undoing commands and redoing commands.

To the right of the three default commands is a menu which enables you to personalise the Quick Access Toolbar and determine which buttons are displayed and which commands remain hidden.

Each of the commands in the Quick Access Toolbar menu is a switch: if a command is active, when you select it, it will be removed: if a command is hidden, choosing it will make it visible.

Another method of customising the Quick Access Toolbar is to add your favourite options from the Excel Ribbon. Just right click on an option in any of the Tabs of the Ribbon. In the context menu which pops up, simply choose “Add To Quick Access Toolbar”.

If you find that you are using the Quick Access Toolbar a lot, you may find it convenient to move it below the Ribbon. Simply choose “Show Below The Ribbon” from the Quick Access Toolbar drop-down menu. You can also make the Quick Access Toolbar more accessible by minimising the ribbon. To do this, double-click on the name of any ribbon Tab or choose “Minimise the Ribbon” from the Quick Access Toolbar menu.
