I never thought selling rare books online would be such a difficult task. My idea a few years ago seemed great. I thought all I needed was to create a website and the rest would take care of itself. My assumptions were wrong, and unfortunately I had to find that out the hard way. There was not a long list of people waiting to take my books as I first predicted.

I was wrong, time past and my sales were scarce, to say the least. If I had a good SEO strategy and good website design, what was wrong? Nothing. And yet, I couldn’t help wondering “Everything is alright. But how can I use my shopping cart to beef up my online sales?” I had to read a lot of articles on ecommerce shopping cart software to find out!

The first question I had to answer was what I wanted to do. It is not as simple as picking the first software out there. You need to examine what the functions of it are, and make sure that it is good for your particular website.

I still didn’t answer the question of how I can use a shopping cart to better my sales. After much research I learned that impulse buying is online just as it is in regular stores. If someone wants an item you should let them know what others bought along with the item. This is one key to boost sales.

Another way to help impulse buying is by giving out coupons for multiple items. It is great when you sell one thing, but if you can get them to buy two or more that is even better! Volume buy is another option you can have, by adding a forum where your buyers can decide on an item they want to buy in volume is a great option.

The shopping cart can be useful if you create another affiliated program. This will help you expose your product at a low cost, or even free. If you have a good shopping cart some other features may include signup process, providing statistics, and even be able to check payments.

A not so trivial thing to take into account is how informative is your website. Do you have thumbnail images f the products? If you have to ship an item, does the buyer have all the information? (Fees, estimate delivery time, etc).

If in the end, you are still asking yourself “How can I use my shopping cart to beef up my online sales?” it never fails to ask a professional for help or consultation.
